The largest and the best
The Volga river, in Russia, is the largest river in Europe. People tend to forget about this and consider other rivers to be the greatest, but the fact is none of them rival with the Volga. And it’s not just because of its sheer size – everything about the Volga is big. It’s an incredibly important part of Russian economy, with 11 of Russia’s 20 largest towns in proximity to the river basin. Because of its size and the way it runs – practically going from north to south of that area of Russia – and because it’s, for the largest part, safe for ships to transit, it’s one of the greatest ways of trade along that part of Russia.
But its importance isn’t all that’s worth mentioning about the river. It’s also an incredibly beautiful and attractive tourist destination. The amount of development that the area around the Volga has had throughout the years means that you can find some truly spectacular buildings and some important historical sites along its course, which is why Volga river cruises are so popular, not only among Russian nationals, but among everyone who visits Russia. If you are interested in paying the river a visit, it’s just a matter of picking which route you want to go on.
